    Collect your bib and boat list the evening before.

    Fish for skrei

    Out on the grounds at dawn. Fixed hours and strict rules.

    Weigh-in and prizes

    Every catch is weighed on the quay. Prize ceremony the same evening.

    About the World Cod Fishing Championship

    Lofoten has been the centre of cod fishing since the Viking Age. For more than 1000 years, skrei - the migratory cod - has been Lofoten's most important export. Every year between February and April, 40 % of all skrei migrates to the banks around Lofoten.

    Every year in late March we stage Norway's biggest sea fishing competition and festival - precisely to celebrate cod fishing. Several thousand people visit Svolvær, and on average 600 anglers take part in the Lofot Cup and the World Cod Fishing Championship.
